According to Don Mattrick, President of the Interactive Entertainment Business for Microsoft, the Kinect is flying out the door and should be one of this year’s hot holiday items. In fact, according to the executive, those consumers hoping to snag the device for the holiday season should order one "by the end of this week."
The comment came during "The New Geography Of Gaming" panel at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco on Tuesday morning, which was a discussion featuring Mattrick and the infamous Bobby Kotick that focused on the increasing level of engagement found in today’s video games. Following the comment, Mattrick ensured moderator Bing Gordon that he was not just saying that to intentionally overhype the device and drive sales, but because Kinect is truly that much in demand.
Microsoft did sell inexcess of one million units within 10 days, so perhaps he’s right. If you plan to purchase a Kinect in 2010, maybe you should get on that soon.
