A television ad for the Xbox 360 has been pulled from UK airwaves by the Advertising Standards Agency for promoting the illegal sport of street racing, according to a report on Reuters.
The ad shows two cars racing in and out of traffic through busy city streets. At the end of the commercial, one car overturns and as the driver gets out, he is congratulated and handed a police badge by the driver that was chasing him. The ASA deemed the ad as "… glamorizing street car racing."
The Xbox 360 advertisement had text appearing during the commercial that stated, "Dramatization. Professional stunt. Do not attempt," but the standards agency still felt that the action in the ad still "reinforced the sense that the events were real, rather than fantasy, and were therefore capable of being copied. We were concerned that the ad gave the impression that reckless street car racing was exciting and fun".
