Since launching the new "S" model Xbox 360 in mid-June, Microsoft has experienced a significant increase in sales of their console. According to a statement by the company, "… We are hearing great feedback from retailers that the new Xbox 360 250GB is experiencing unprecedented demand."
"Strong demand for the new Xbox 360 250GB combined with a $50 price reduction in the US on the Xbox 360 Arcade and Elite consoles, now US$149.99 and US$249.99 respectively, has resulted in a significant sales spike for Xbox 360 since the new console hit shelves on or around June 14."
While the 360 has traditionally sold well in the west, Microsoft has recently been facing some tough competition from Sony and their re-designed PS3. However, numbers are now also steadily climbing for Xbox in Japan, due to the release of Monster Hunter Frontier Online, the most recent iteration one of the region’s most popular franchises. Only time will tell if Microsoft can keep their momentum going until Kinect launches this fall.
