Many, like myself, were shamed in defeat last month when Blizzard’s website featured a splash page with an ice motif and an image I was sure looked like the Lich King himself. Many of us were pretty sure that Blizzard was going to be letting loose the news 10 million subscribers have been waiting for: When will Wrath of the Lich King release?
Well, to be honest, we still don’t know. WAIT! Don’t leave just yet! We don’t have the specific release date yet, but what we do have is a narrowed-down release window for when the game will ship.
Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime chose to grace us with the following information: "We have said that it will be coming out this year. I can tell you it’s not coming in the July to September quarter."
It’s far from definitive, and it’s a little bit useless considering no one in their right mind expected WotLK to launch by September. However, what it does do is give us an affirmation that Blizzard is still planning to release it in 2008.
Do I personally think they are going to make that release date? No. But then again, Blizzard has adopted a sort of episodic content theory of expansion pack publishing. They like to get the meat of the content out there, and then finish up the end game material while everyone is still working on the beginning raids.
