At this year’s Game Developers Conference, CD Projekt Red — the creators of The Witcher series — released more details about its third installment: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
According to the CD Projekt Red staff on hand — gameplay designer Maciej Szczesnik, head of marketing Michal Platkow-Gilewski, and Managing Director Adam Badowski — there will be a variety of changes for this last adventure of Geralt of Rivia. The game will be easier for new players, the combat system will be tweaked and updated in a number of ways, and there will be a full day-to-night cycle complete with weather controls. The size of the game will also be 35-times larger than the previous installment.
Most interesting, however, was the stance on the issue of DRM in the game. The collective response was that the game will not feature it at all, with Szczesnik commenting that the company is in fact trying to get away from DRM entirely
“If someone wants to pirate a game, eventually he will,” Szczesnik said, insinuating that invasive DRM only harms the player, not the pirate.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be released sometime in 2014.
