At E3 2006 the Nintendo Wii was a huge product. Many people stood in line for five or more hours just to play it – or at least they think they played it. Nintendo PR Manager Matt Atwood clearly states that the Wii demo stations at E3 were not running inside the Wii casing at all. Instead, they were operating inside of a GameCube housing using Wii-spec hardware.
Mr. Atwood explains, “The Wii hardware we exhibited at E3 2006 was made specifically for the E3 show and is not the final mass-production version. Some of this hardware was cased in Nintendo GameCube housing.”
