Wii Content Priced

In case you live under a rock with no gaming or internet connection, know that the Nintendo Wii (formerly Revolution) will feature downloadable content from a lot of previous gen consoles. Among the downloadable content are games for the NES, SNES, TurboGrafx16, Genesis, N64, and more. While we think it’s 7 tons of cool that we’ll be able to play this huge library of classic game on our funny little Wii console, the burning question remains: How much will they cost?

While rumors have flown from anywhere between "FREE" and "20 bucks" the final announcement is, of course, a moderate middle ground. In a recent announcemnt from the Nintendo president Saturo Iwata, Nintendo stated games will cost about 500 to 1,000 yen (approx. $4.50 USD to $8.99 USD). In comparison, Xbox’s Live service offers a limited library about 5-13 dollars a pop.

There was also mention of DS compatibility, both in case of touch-sensitive games for the Wii and playable DS content on your TV via the Wii as well. Nintendo is certainly holding nothing back in terms of ambition and variety of features for their new console. They seem to have gone so far overboard that they may be a bigger player in the console wars for the first time in a long, long time.
