Earlier this year Warner Bros. confirmed the existence of a new entry in the Batman Arkham series. Now the company has sent out a press release officially announcing Batman: Arkham Origins.
As the title indicates, Batman: Arkham Origins acts as a prequel and takes place prior to the events of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Players will control a “young and unrefined Batman as he faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter that sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight.”
Perhaps the most noteworthy aspect of the announcement is the absence of developer Rocksteady Studios, the team responsible for the first two entries in the series. Instead, WB Games Montreal will handle development duties.
Martin Tremblay, president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, expressed his company’s excitement about the upcoming game and its faith in WB Games Montreal.
“Batman: Arkham is a huge triple-A videogame franchise and we are delighted to expand the experience with Batman: Arkham Origins,” he said. “WB Games Montreal has an incredibly talented team building upon Rocksteady’s award-winning gameplay and technology to deliver a deep, immersive, quality experience fans will love.”
Batman: Arkham Origins is set to come out on October 25 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC.
