According to the April 2007 Warhammer Online newsletter, EA Mythic announced that the upcoming MMORPG has been delayed until Q1 2008 — it was expected for launch later this year. Reasons for the delay were headlined by the typical increase in development time required. "By extending our development time, we’ll be able to do these in-depth reviews several times prior to launch to ensure all areas of WAR benefit from the experience of ongoing development. EA is totally supportive of our decision and are behind us 100%. We all believe WAR will be the next great MMORPG and being part of EA affords us the time we need to make it so. It is EA’s ongoing commitment to quality that will allow us, and other EA studios, to deliver great games, now and in the future."
As for other MMORPGs for this year, Turbine Inc. just launched its new MMORPG, The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar yesterday, Perpetual/Sony’s Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising will launch in the summer, Flying Lab Software’s Pirates of the Burning Sea will launch in June, Funcom’s Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures will launch in October, and Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean Online will launch soon.
