During a conference call held after EA’s Q2 earnings report, EA Mythic revealed that Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning has been delayed again. If this sounds familiar, then you’re not alone since we reported a previous delay just back in April that the game was delayed till Q1 2008.
Now, the game is expected for release in the first half of EA’s 2009 fiscal year, which begins on April 1, 2008.
A follow-up Q/A session between GameSpot and Mark Jacobs, EA Mythic’s general manager, revealed some more details behind the delay.
"It really boils down to this: Our game is going to live and die by two things. One is realm-versus-realm (RvR) gameplay. The second is overall quality. This is not 1999, 1997, or even 2001. This is 2007. We have to be able to release a game that, in terms of quality–without even going into game systems or RvR–is top-notch. We’ve seen too many games in this industry, and in this space, release without that, and we’re not going to do that."
Jacobs reassures disappointed fans that the delay will only enhance and better the game. I’d take a delay over a rushed game, we’ve seen too many of those.
"Nobody likes news of a delay. We’re not happy with it. Nobody is. But when the delay is used so that we can build a better game, a more glorious game, a game that will give players what they want, then I think we have to look at this as a very good thing."
