Holy heck, November was an excellent gaming month! Thanks to a number of great game releases, total gaming industry sales hit over $2.63 billion last month. This amount is up 52% during the same period last year. In October, total gaming industry sales hit $1.1 billion.
One of the notable increases was a 52% increase in game accessory sales, which hit $243 million. This is partly attributed to an increased demand for Wii controllers. NPD analyst Anita Fraizer divulges more information on the matter.
"4 of the 5 best-selling accessories for the month were Wii controllers. The Wii Zapper, which debuted in November, sold 232K units. The second-best selling accessory for the month was the PS3 wireless controller at 282K units."
The U.S. video game industry now stands at $13.12 billion, which is up 50% from the same period last year. As for the best selling console, the Nintendo DS remained in first place by selling 1.53 million units with the Nintendo Wii coming in second with 981,000 units sold. Lastly, the best selling game for the month was Activision’s Call of Duty 4. Combined Xbox 360 and PS3 game sales reached over 2 million units sold for the game. The rest of the top ten games are as followed.
