Everyone, pat yourself on the back because its your money that caused total video game sales to reach $1.1 billion in October. The Wii remained in the #1 spot as the top-selling console.
Nintendo sold 519,000 Wiis in October, while Microsoft sold 366,000 Xbox 360s and Sony sold 121,1000 PS3s. Even though the Xbox 360 took September’s #1 top-selling console spot, the Wii rebounded by snagging October’s spot.
Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, said, "What this demonstrates is that we are putting more and more product into the marketplace and we continue to sell out as soon as it hits."
Halo 3 remained the best-selling game on a single console by selling 433,800 copies. But Guitar Hero III just needed 6 days to sell a combined 1.4 million copies across all three major consoles, along with the PS2. In regards to Guitar Hero’s success, NPD analyst Anita Frazier said that its easy-approachable appeal to gamers helps its sales.
"Guitar Hero has certainly established itself among the elite video games properties. Since it has broad appeal, it’s also the type of game that should continue to do very well throughout the holidays."
