Gabe Newell, head of Valve Software, blasted the PS3 and said that it was "a waste of everybody’s time."
He criticized Sony for basically throwing money away in developing the much touted Cell processor–the heart of the PlayStation 3:
"Absolutely. I think [the PS3 is] a waste of everybody’s time. Investing in the Cell, investing in the SPE gives you no long-term benefits. There’s nothing there that you’re going to apply to anything else. You’re not going to gain anything except a hatred of the architecture they’ve created.
"I don’t think they’re going to make money off their box. I don’t think it’s a good solution," he said in an interview with Next-Gen.
Earlier this year in January, Newell suggested that Sony should just start over again by saying, "I’d say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a do over."
It’s pretty obvious that Newell has no fond feelings for the PS3, but his ill will and comment that the PS3 is a waste of time for everyone certainly will ruffle the feathers of the people who spent tens of thousands of hours developing the machine–not to mention the millions of PS3 fans around the world.
He’ll have a lot of explaining to do if he ever releases games for the PS3…
