Online passes have become a regular thing since EA started using them in all of their titles featuring multiplayer modes. RAGE developer id Software is taking it one step further and restricting some singe-player content from anyone who doesn’t buy the title new.
Throughout the game players will find sewer hatches that, if purchased new, will be available to them from the get-go. These hatches aren’t associated with the main storyline, but do lead to new side missions.
Unlike Diablo III, players will not need to have a constant connection to the internet to enjoy RAGE‘s single-player story. Tim Willits, creative director of RAGE, said that if they could force players to be connected online it would be great for everyone involved, citing automatic updates as a perk.
There is no word on whether or not players who buy RAGE used will be able to purchase a pass to access the sewer hatches.
RAGE is set to release on October 4 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
