Universal and Paramount to support Blu-ray

bluraylogoNow that Toshiba has given up the HD DVD format, the two last lingering movie company HD DVD supporters, Universal and Paramount, have officially given their pledge to support Blu-ray.

Over on the Hollywood Reporter, Paramount released the following brief statement, "We are pleased that the industry is moving to a single high-definition format, as we believe it is in the best interest of the consumer. As we look to (begin) releasing our titles on Blu-ray, we will monitor consumer adoption and determine our release plans accordingly."

Over on High-Def Digest, they have a statement from Craig Kornblau, president of Universal Studios Home Entertainment, "Universal will continue its aggressive efforts to broaden awareness for hi-def’s unparalleled offerings in interactivity and connectivity, at an increasingly affordable price. While Universal values the close partnership we have shared with Toshiba, it is time to turn our focus to releasing new and catalog titles on Blu-ray."

Universal was one of the original HD DVD supporters since the format originally started. So the cycle is complete, all six major movie companies are now Blu-ray supporters. There’s one clear winner, time to relax.
