Ubisoft has announced that it is preparing a downloadable package for Rainbow Six: Vegas, dubbed the "Players Pack: Red Edition." Included are five maps and two new game modes, which will be available for download by the end of March.
The fine print reveals that only three of the maps will be brand new, while two of them merely add new flourish to the existing "Kill House" and "Border Town" levels. Expect the changes to be a mere cosmetic retooling in the form of new lighting effects.
However, "Doscala Restaurant," "Marshalling Yard," and "Roof" are new maps. Each takes an existing area from the single player adventure and reworks it for a multiplayer context. In addition, "Assassination" and "Total Conquest" are two new adversarial modes that will give the game’s rabid following new ways to enjoy Vegas. Assassination–a new attack and defend variant–tasks one side with escorting a VIP to a designated location, and the other with killing him or her. The other mode, "Total Conquest"–think Battlefield, or Halo 2‘s "Territories"–has teams competing for specific, strategically-placed zones on the map.
No announcement has been made regarding the price or exact release date for the package, but it’s most certainly not going to be complementary. The official PR release states that this is "premium" content, and you know what that means: get those Microsoft Points ready.
