Game publisher Koei announced that two previously exclusive titles being developed for the PS3, Fatal Inertia and Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War, will now be also offered for the Xbox 360. The publisher also divulged that the release of both games will be delayed. The titles were slated for a spring release, but Koei is now aiming for a 2007 summer launch, with the delay due to a desire for "the highest levels of quality possible".
Fatal Inertia, is a futuristic racing combat game, while Bladestorm: The Hundred Years’ War, is an RTS set in Medieval Europe. Koei continued to shed light on the postponement by adding, "The development cycles have been extended simply because of all the things the developers want to do with the new hardware."
The reasons for the holdup of the games may also be related to the added task of developing the titles for the Xbox 360 in addition to the PS3. This is a possible indication that the game publisher may be trying to insure that their games receive the widest possible exposure in the face of ever-increasing development costs. The Xbox 360 already has an installed user base of over 10 million machines, while Sony is aiming for 6 million by March 2007.
