EA has announced Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters, but the titular athlete of the series can only barely be seen from behind on the cover.
The move doesn’t come as much of a surprise given Woods’ troubles both off and on the course over the past year. EA stated that his off-the-course issues wouldn’t affect his sponsorship, but his lack of performance in 2010 and the subtitle of The Masters may be foreshadowing something unfortunate for the superstar athlete.
"He sort of stuck with us for a very long time and we made great business together and we’re willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for a period of time," EA boss John Riccitiello said last month.
The game itself however will be the first one ever to feature the fabled grounds of Augusta National with a new career mode. EA used "laser-scanning technology" to pin-perfectly capture the Augusta course.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters will release March 29 in North America and April 1 worldwide for the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with Move support.
