There’s no doubt that Halo 3 is one of the most highly anticipated game titles for 2007. What the Halo faithful may not know is that it will be released in several special editions in addition to the "plain Jane" version. All we can say is that you’d better start saving your lunch money now if you plan on buying the top-of-the-line edition.
The SKUs of the long-awaited third installment in the Halo franchise will include three flavors. The standard edition, which only includes the game itself, will retail for the usual $59.99. But if you are a mildly wild Halo fan, you’ll want to upgrade your purchase plans to the Limited Edition, which sells for ten dollars more–$69.99. The LE version will house the game in a metal case and includes one bonus features disc, an art book and a special guide describing the features and inhabitants of the Halo universe. There will be an assortment of "never-before-seen" art and some additional storyline details that add to the background of the series’ plot.
But for the completely dedicated fan who eats, sleeps, and plays Halo until the wee hours of the night, Bungie and Microsoft offer the Legendary Edition at a legendary suggested retail price of $129.99. In this mammoth of a limited edition, you’ll find your Halo 3 game boxed inside of a Master Chief helmet. You’ll be treated to two bonus features discs which will cover the gamut of everything Halo, such as special HD documentaries, the making of Halo 3, and just about anything else you could ever want or need to know about Halo. And if this isn’t enough to convince you to buy the Legendary Edition, the game’s producers have included a special audio-visual calibration tool so that you’ll be able to dial in your home theater components to perfection.
The cynics amongst us might say that all of these special releases are just an attempt by Microsoft to extract a few more precious dollars out of our wallets and purses. But since none of us here are cynics, we’ll just believe that the $129.99 Legendary Edition is really a gift to the gaming community.
