THQ realigned its business portfolio earlier today and decided to move away from the studio’s kid- and movie-based properties as it will be narrowing its focus to “high-quality owned IP with broad appeal that can be leveraged across multiple platforms.”
This shift has caused THQ to close two studios in Austrailia, eliminate the development team at its Pheonix location, and cut 200 jobs. All affected employees will still be able to reapply for jobs located within other THQ development studios that still remain open, which now boils down to five studios:
– THQ Montreal (Unannounced new IP)
– Volition (Saints Row: The Third, inSANE)
– Relic Entertainment (Company of Heroes, Warhammer: Space Marine)
– Vigil Games (Darksiders II)
– THQ San Diego (WWE)
THQ has also thrown in the towel on the MX vs. ATV franchise and will no longer pursue it at this time.
GamerNode wishes the best of luck to all of the affected employees.
