Earlier this morning THQ announced the development of Company of Heroes 2, a sequel to the successful 2006 strategy title. A specific release date has not been set at this point, but the game is expected to come out in “early” 2013.
Events still take place during World War II, but this time around the focus will shift to the Eastern Front. Players will take control of the Red Army as they battle Nazi invaders in Moscow.
Developer Relic Entertainment will be using its Essence 3.0 Engine, resulting in “increased graphical fidelity and new environmental destruction, ultimately putting the player in control with new Commander Abilities.”
Greg Wilson, producer at Relic Entertainment, commented on how the newly announced sequel will take elements from its predecessor while still introducing key changes.
“Company of Heroes 2 is a true successor, introducing a new front, new protagonists and new technology while retaining the unique mix of strategic gameplay and competitive multiplayer that made the original Company of Heroes such a success,” he explained.
THQ has no plans to show Company of Heroes 2 during this year’s E3, but hopefully PC gamers will get to see more of the upcoming strategy title in the near future.
