The Last Starfighter game released after 25 years

StarfighterThe arcade game Starfighter was finally released after 25 years. The game is inspired by the 1984 film, The Last Starfighter, where it played a key part in the story.

Remember that movie? Me neither. (Check your late night movie listings to see if it ever shows up.)

It was about a kid who was so good at the Starfighter game that an alien conscripted him into his army to fight in a real intergalactic war. B-Rated written all over it.

You’d think in 1984, arcade makers would have pumped the machines out in conjunction with the movie to eat up glassy-eyed kids’ quarters. Whatever the reason it took 25 years–better late than never.

The 25 year wait has got to be some record for the delayed release of a game. So Duke Nukem Forever fans, don’t fret, maybe they’re just trying to break this record.

Rogue Synapse is the company that resurrected Starfighter. Their company’s goal is to take video games from movies and make them real. I don’t really see a huge market for this… but hey, someone’s got to do it right?
