Team Ico have been hard at work on The Last Guardian, aiming for a holiday 2011 release. Now it looks like gamers will have to wait even longer to play the upcoming PlayStation 3 title.
Director Fumito Ueda announced that The Last Guardian has been delayed from its expected release window.
"However, to provide more challenging and better quality of content to users and to fulfill First Party Studio’s obligations, I decided to postpone its release timing," he said.
Ueda does state the delay is to ensure the best quality game, saying, "All the members of my production team are working together at a fast pace to develop and release the game in First Party Studio quality." He then went on to apologize and say a new release window will be provided at a later date.
Even worse news is that the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus Collection has also been delayed. Fans were probably hoping that would hold them over in anticipation of The Last Guardian, but it will no longer be coming out this spring.
It’s been nearly six years since Team Ico’s last project, Shadow of the Colossus. Hopefully The Last Guardian, the developer’s PlayStation 3 debut, will be worth the wait.
