So the question here is, do gamers mind in-game advertising? In a survey conducted by GameSpot UK, 73% didn’t have a negative opinion about in-game advertising. The survey was given to over 3500 UK gamers and was issued over the course of one year.
Other interesting tidbits included that 40% thought in-game advertising “added realism” and only 33% thought in-game advertising “spoiled the gaming experience”. Regarding the subject of the advertisements themselves, 28% found that advertising changed their perception of the brand, and 64% thought it “was a positive perception change.”
In this day and age, more and more companies are embracing the use of in-game advertising. Just yesterday, Ubisoft released four games for free that incorporated in-game advertising; Far Cry, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Rayman Raving Rabbids. While supporting in-game advertising, all the games are 100% ad-free while actually playing in-game; all the advertisements are shown on menu or loading screens.
So even though those ads were less intrusive, would you folks want to see more in-game advertising in the future? I say, if they make excellent games free, then sure! In addition, do you mind in-game advertising in the first place?
