This may come as a shocker, but Halo 3’s first full day on sale turned out to be an extremely successful one. I know, I know, you weren’t ready for that. Just take a few deep breaths, sit down, and let it sink in.
Alright, now that you’re more prepared to have your mind blown (who WOULD have seen this coming!?), according to Microsoft Halo 3 opened up with an estimate $170 million in sales, beating out the opening days of Spider-Man 3 and that one book that came out this summer… What was it… It had some wizard, some school and tea…
Anyway, Shane Kim, vice president of Microsoft Games, had to chime in. "Halo 3 has become a pop-culture phenomenon. Not only is Halo 3 setting sales records, it’s also redefining entertainment. Within the first 20 hours alone, we’ve seen more than a million Xbox LIVE members come online to play Halo 3 – that makes September 25 the most active Xbox LIVE gaming day in history."
So there you have it. Halo 3 made more money in one day than other huge entertainment blockbusters, it smashed the record for most Xbox LIVE gamers playing a game in one day, and it’s apparently important to more than just gamers.
I think at this point, the only Halo 3 news that would surprise me is if Master Chief turned out to be Oprah in a mansuit the entire time.
