Supreme Commander heading to consoles?

supcomconsolesI’m surprised that Supreme Commander will receive its first expansion pack in November, even though the game itself hasn’t even been out for a year. That’s a heck of a turn-around to crank out an expansion pack for a somewhat still-new game.

With that said, Chris Taylor, founder of Gas Powered Games and the main man behind SupCom, talked with Pro-G and revealed that the upcoming expansion may not be all that’s in store for the game.

While SupCom has been primarily based around PC, there were some rumblings that it might head to consoles. Well, to add some more fuel to the fire, Taylor said that he prefers the Xbox 360 when porting games over from PC.

"Yeah likely. It’s a great platform. If you look at pure development economics, it’s the platform of choice for moving stuff from the PC. You can get stuff over there economically, very quickly."

When asked if SupCom will head to consoles, Taylor began to explain but quickly rescinded his comment since it’s apparently under double-secret wraps.

"I hope so. That’s our goal. Especially not to talk too much here because you’ve almost made me confess that we’re working on it… no actually you have. That’s good. I like that. This is a secret I want to share."

When asked about the coverage of RTS games on consoles, Taylor is pretty adamant that Gas Powered Games is pretty close with a solution to the entire hubbub.

"I use the football analogy. The first RTS game was the kick and then we had to take the ball a few more yards down the field every iteration. We’re getting closer and closer to that touchdown. We may be a few more iterations of the UI and interface before we get there."
