People wonder why I love Grasshopper Studios’ CEO Goichi Suda. Well, this story is a prime example.
Suda 51 recently spoke with Nintendo Official Magazine UK, to whom he revealed his not-so-secret (anymore) desire to create a Mario game for adult audiences. This proposed project would likely be something along the lines of his previous creations Killer7 and No More Heroes – two ultraviolent and absolutely insane videogames.
Suda wants to make a Mario game with guns.
This discussion was sparked when NOM asked if Suda would ever consider making games for the young’uns, to which he replied:
"I want to make a Super Mario game for adults. Maybe Mario could wear an Italian suit and have a machine gun, but Nintendo probably wouldn’t like that idea."
No, they probably wouldn’t go for it, but I’m sure there are tons of fans who would. Having first played a game featuring the Italian plumber some 20-odd years ago, that now-all-grown-up audience may very well be ready for Gangster Mario Underworld.
