Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard) has signed on to direct "Castlevania", the upcoming live-action movie adaptation of Konami’s famous vampire action game series.
The film will be produced by Rogue Pictures and Crystal Sky Entertainment and filming will begin this fall in South Africa. Rogue Pictures will provide funding and distribute the film sometime in 2008.
The movie script was written by director/writer Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat) and will follow a group of knights who storm a castle to seek refuge from an invading Turkish army.
What they find is a castle that is inhabited by a vampire. Anderson was originally going to direct "Castlevania" but dropped from the project to direct the upcoming film remake, "Death Race". Anderson will also direct another video game-based film, "Spy Hunter."
White said, "Most of the vampire films have been present or set in the future, from ‘Blade’ to ‘Underworld,’ and I was attracted by the chance to make a dark, epic period movie that almost has an anime feel to it."
