When StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty was released in late July it sold 1.5 million copies in its first 48 hours, making it the fastest-selling strategy game of all time. That number has now doubled, with Blizzard announcing today that their real-time strategy hit has surpassed the 3 million mark worldwide in just one month.
"We appreciate all the enthusiasm that players around the world have shown for StarCraft II," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "It was important to us to deliver an overall gameplay experience that was accessible, balanced, and fun, and it’s been gratifying to see how strongly the global community has already embraced the game."
This should come as no surprise given the anticipation surrounding StarCraft II‘s release and the fact that Blizzard has a pedigree for making extremely successful PC games. With two more StarCraft II games already on the horizon it looks like the franchise will be bringing in a lot of money in the future.
