Konami just held their press event for their upcoming title Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the PSP, and some surprising collaborations were revealed. A tweet from Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto earlier this week hinted at a "small surprise" later in the week, and it appears the surprise is this collaboration with Konami to make the official figures for MGS:PW. Certainly not the surprise gamers were hoping for, but an interesting partnership nonetheless.
At the event, Konami also showed off a number of product placement instances that MGS:PW will feature. While the MGS series is no stranger to product placement, it looks like this title will be overloaded with logos and products. According to Gamasutra, the game will feature "product placements from Doritos, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Axe body spray, clothing brand Uniqlo and many more." It looks like Konami head Hideo Kojima is all about the partnerships these days, or all about the advertising revenue.
In addition to sporting body sprays and soft drinks, Kojima also revealed an in-game tie-in with Capcom’s Monster Hunter, complete with some gameplay footage of Snake battling a T-rex. While the MGS series hasn’t always been founded firmly in reality, this is definitely a step much further in the fantasy direction, with a kind of "Lost World" twist. Just check out the screenshot to get the picture.
So for now, that’s all Square Enix, Capcom, Konami, Pepsi, and Axe have to say, but that hasn’t stop Kojima from having a little bit of fun. Below is a sweet April fools trailer for MGS:PW, complete with assassin skills and secret agent thrills.
