Sony announced the annual PlayStation Awards in Japan this week. The titles eligible for this honor are based upon the number of sales a game generated between May of 2005 and 2006 in Japan. These awards are different in the sense that reviews or comments by the public and press are not taken into consideration and are based purely on the numerical sales strength of the games.
The awards are broken down into three categories:
Double Platinum – Sales between 2-3 million copies.
- Square Enix-Final Fantasy XII, PS2
Platinum – Sales of over 1 million copies.
- Kingdom Hearts II (PS2, Square Enix)
- World Soccer Winning Eleven 9 (PS2, Konami)
- World Soccer Winning Eleven 10 (PS2, Konami)
Gold – Sales of over 500,000 copies
- Biohazard 4, (Resident Evil 4) PS2-Capcom
- Monster Hunter 2 – PS2, Capcom
- Monster Hunter Portable, (Monster Hunter Freedom) PSP, Capcom
- Sengoku Musou 2, (Samurai Warriors 2) – PS2, Koei
