While Blu-Ray is winning its DVD format war, Sony’s other format, the UMD, has not been seeing the same success. While UMD saw great sales in the beginning of its debut, the number of UMD based media content sold has been steadily falling.
Sony won’t give up, though, and to show their support, it has announced that a number of cult MTV shows are going to be featured on the Sony PSP.
"Shows destined for UMD include Beavis and Butt-Head, Jackass, Wildboyz, Viva La Bam, and Aeon Flux: The Complete Animated Collection."
Appreciated, but Sony should let the UMD format go. With other choices like the iPhone, iPod Touch, and even HD disks like Blu-ray, there are many other options that are so much more appealing. Also the fact that movie studios are reducing the amount of content they release on UMD should be the writing on the wall. Take the losses where they are, and just concentrate on the Blu-Ray since we can all agree that we love watching shows in 1080p.
