There are too many damn PS3 models. There is no wit, sympathy, or understanding to be inserted here; Sony has just got it wrong in the SKU-differentiation department.
That having been said, there is a little rumor floating around the interwebz from an "insider" at Sony that the company may be releasing a slimmed-down version of their monolithic Foreman Grill imposter this fall.
Think back to the PSTwo (or Slimline PS2, as some may know it) and you will get a picture of the sort of diet Sony wants to put their newest console on. This time, however, the Hollywood-inspired binge-and-purge version of the system may in fact be the beefier unit in terms of storage space. Last week, GamerNode reported that a 160GB PS3 model is possibly on the horizon, and then we told our readers that Sony has discontinued production of the 80GB model altogether.
Now I’m no Sherlock Holmes, but the pieces seem to be falling into place here, and the final picture may very well be of a space-saving, high-storage PS3 just in time for the holiday season. Let’s just hope it doesn’t cost 800 bucks.
