Skullgirls postponed to early 2012

The all-new and all-original fighting game, Skullgirls, has been postponed to early 2012. It had been strongly felt that developer Reverge Labs would not release Skullgirls in 2011 due to their less-than-usual “gameplay first” development methods and their willingness to show unpolished work of the game.

Peter Bartholow, a designer at Reverge, tells players that they need not worry because the game’s development is still running smoothly. The delay was orchestrated in order for the studio to deliver the best game that it can.

Reverge has been polishing and tweaking the game based on feedback from tournament attendees and forum-goers. Bartholow was even kind enough to share a list of a few of the features and tweaks the studio is making.

  • Gameplay speed changes – 10% faster!
  • Lots of new effects and overall presentation improvements
  • Upgraded backgrounds to 3D
  • Additional music from Michiru Yamane
  • Requested color palettes
  • Accidental pause prevention option – hold Start for 15 frames to pause
  • PlayStation 3 custom soundtrack option
  • Button macros to help when playing on a pad
  • Innumerable balance and gameplay tweaks
  • In-game art galleries

Bartholow also made it clear that these are probably not all of the changes players should be expecting to see from Skullgirls.

For those who are craving more footage, the game’s newest character, Parasoul, is reporting for duty. Parasoul is the princess of the Canopy Kingdom and leader of the Black Egrets, the kingdom’s military. Readers can check out her gameplay video below.

Skullgirlsis set for an early 2012 release on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace.
