In anticipation of the Silent Hill movie, soon to be released, Konami has announced a special edition Silent Hill compilation of the series for the PS2. The collection will include Silent Hill 2, 3 and 4. In addition, a PSP interactive comic book, based on the game, will be offered. Six comic books will be available with music, video interviews with the director of the movie, Christophe Gans, and the producer, Akira Yamaoka. The PSP UMD will be called "The Silent Hill Experience." The Silent Hill franchise first appeared in 2001 in the survival horror genre. The Resident Evil titles, which focused on action and puzzles, were the forerunner of the genre. Silent Hill differs from RE in that it emphasized the storyline and characters, as well as many in-game puzzles. Of course, as with any horror game, there were also a fair amount of monsters and ghouls to fight and do battle with. The first game in the series was known for its controversial depiction of Christian symbols and icons along with occult overtones and disturbing cut scenes. The Silent Hill titles also offered alternative endings, which were influenced by decisions made by the player during the course of the game. The Silent Hill Collection for the PS2 will be released on April 13th, while "The Silent Hill Experience" for the PSP will be available on may 26th. Don’t forget to turn off the lights when you play.
