Sales climate in Japan, good for Sony

PS3 News Sales ImageSeems business is looking up for the PlayStation 3 in Japan. Since last week, sales for Sony’s machine have doubled according to GameIndustry.biz.

"Sales of Sony’s PlayStation 3 have doubled in Japan, with data from Media Create showing that the console has shifted 28,829 units for the week ended July 29, compared to just over 12,000 for the previous week," states GI.

PSP sales also rose while numbers for the DS and Wii fell slightly, but were still well ahead of the pack.

"Sales of Nintendo’s DS and Wii have dropped for the same period, although the consoles continue to record strong numbers with over 150,000 units and 77,000 units, respectively."

The Xbox 360 typically lumbers away in Japan with only four thousand units being bought off the store shelves.

Overall, the environment in Japan hasn’t changed much. No one expects the Wii and DS to lose their dominance over the market in the near future, but it encouraging seeing Sony gaining some popularity on their home turf. As for the Xbox 360, there really seems to be no cure to the trouble Microsoft is facing out east.
