Has Shenmue Online given up the ghost? Despite no official word from SEGA or Yu Suzuki yet, a source from Kikizo says that yes, the game has been quietly canned. Initial signs creeped up after no-showing at this year’s Chinajoy and virtually no information at all were released so far this year.
Straight from Kikizo: "To clarify, what I meant was I wanted to get clarification on something I heard a couple of days ago, which is that yes, Shenmue Online is f**ked and Suzuki’s status is, once again, up in the air, which counts Shenmue III totally out of the picture right now. This is confirmed, it seems. I am not running any story on it."
While I may not run 100% with the story and believe if this is true or not yet, at least it attempts to give some closure. It doesn’t rule out, though, the possibility that another Shenmue game in general can be released.
Trouble started back in 2005 when JC Entertainment, who owned 50% of Shenmue Online, pulled out of development for the game.
