According to a report over at Joystiq, Best Buy has notified all customers who’ve preordered the Nintendo Wii game Metroid Prime 3: Corruption that the release date has changed from Q1 to Q4 of 2007. The new release date on Best Buy’s listing shows 12/31/07, which would actually constitute Q1 of next year.
No official statement has been given from Nintendo, as it still has yet to pin a release date to the title. But it can’t be denied that without Metroid to feed the hungry crowd of Wii owners, the first three quarters of 2007 are going to see little in the way of big releases.
None of this takes into consideration that Reggie Fils-Aime swore that we’d see the game around the corner of this year. There’s little indication that Retro Studios have had a rocky development period, and we all know that the Wii could certainly use a title like Metroid right about now. Could it be implementation of an online multiplayer mode? Is the game receiving a visual overhaul? Hopefully it won’t be an entire year before we find out.
