During Microsoft’s E3 press conference last week, it was revealed that Mass Effect 3 will feature Kinect support. The newest development involving the game now hints at a possible co-op mode.
Sources have told Eurogamer that the cooperative multiplayer will be online-enabled for up to four players. Another source then informed CVG that the multiplayer will be "original missions made for online," and they will not interfere with the single-player portion of the game.
The source went on to state that there will "only be a handful" of co-op missions in Mass Effect 3, and the goal is to make them immediately replayable. It was originally reported that the co-op will be similar to the Gears of War series’ Horde mode, but that was later discounted by CVG’s source.
Reports indicate that BioWare Montreal is behind the co-op missions. This could be possible considering the studio was seen recruiting multiplayer staff last year.
This is only a rumor currently, and BioWare has given no official word on the news.
When asked last week about the possibility of multiplayer in Mass Effect 3, BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka did not rule anything out.
"We haven’t talked at all about multiplayer in the Mass Effect franchise, but we’re exploring multiplayer in all of our games and all of our franchises," he said. "It’s always an idea we’re interested in. The short answer is we have no comment on that. But we’re interested in the idea of multiplayer."
