EA has been pushing for multiplayer with many of its flagship franchises, and Dragon Age may be following suit in the near future.
An insider has informed Kotaku that an arena-based multiplayer mode is being worked on for the RPG series. It is said to include both player versus environment (PvE) and player versus player (PvP) elements.
The new mode is being developed on DICE’s Frostbite 2 game engine, which was featured most recently in Battlefield 3. But the insider did not specify whether the multiplayer will make an appearance in Dragon Age III or a separate downloadable game.
EA has yet to comment on this rumor, but it wouldn’t be too surprising considering BioWare’s other famed series, Mass Effect, will be introducing multiplayer for the first time with Mass Effect 3.
