I don’t know why, but I find this news to be particularly sad. Last night at midnight, NCsoft permanently shut down its Auto Assault servers.
In the post World of Warcraft era, when everyone was looking for the next big thing in MMOs, Auto Assault arose as a promising game. Coverage was everywhere in the months leading up to release, and press was buzzing with anticipation.
When the game launched in April 2006, the game got solid review scores all around, but for some reason, the subscriber base dwindled as the months went by.
What will become of the loyal gamers who stuck with the game until the bitterest of ends? They will be taken care of. NCsoft has told each and everyone of them to keep an eye on their inbox, because they will be getting invitations to participate in several of NCsoft’s other MMOs including City of Heroes and the upcoming Tabula Rasa.
