According to a report from Eurogamer, Sony aims to impress with a future PS3 firmware update that will allow for Vita Remote Play with all games.
At the Tokyo Game Show, Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida streamed the graphically-intensive PlayStation 3 game, Killzone 3, to the PlayStation Vita to illustrate the Remote Play capability.
One problem that already seems to be addressed is formatting the picture from a television onto a much smaller display. Vita’s OLED display is capable of displaying games at a 960×544 resolution, but PS3 games streamed through Vita Remote Play will be restricted to the same 480×272 resolution as the PlayStation Portable. The image will then be upscaled to fit the screen.
Cooperative play between Vita and PS3 users is another interesting prospect. While Yoshida demonstrated how LittleBigPlanet 2 utilized the cross-system cooperative play, it is still unclear if all online multiplayer games will have this benefit.
Sony declined to comment on the report.
If this is the case, I’d almost wonder what the point of even making games for the system itself would be. I’d imagine most folks who’d own a Vita would also own a PlayStation 3.
