Update: Ubisoft has issued the following statement regarding the leaked trailer:
“An internal video showing images of Rayman Origins’ sequel has leaked over the Internet. This video was intended as a purely internal demonstrative video, and in NO way represents the final game, the final console or their features. This video was destined for internal production teams who often create game prototypes with work in progress development kits.”
While Ubisoft has yet to announce a follow-up to 2011’s Rayman Origins, a leaked trailer all but confirms the game’s existence. Dubbed Rayman Legends, the speculated sequel takes Rayman, Globox, and the Teensies to fantasy realms filled with castles, dragons, and a healthy dose of magic.
The trailer shows a new art-style for the game, blending and smoothing bold colors together to create an oil-painting vibe. At one point in the video, four people are playing together, one with a Wii U tablet – the player using the tablet can watch all of the action from their screen, and appears to have control over the environment. To help her friends get across a gap, she’s able to slide up a platform on the tablet’s touch screen, carrying the group to safety.
Later on, we see a couple grab a plastic heart toy, modeled after the hearts in Rayman Origins. Placing the toy on the tablet’s screen suddenly filled the world with hearts, though it’s unclear exactly what effect that gave the group. A boy then places a Rabbid figurine on the screen, and plays in a Raving Rabbids-inspired level.
As the video ends, the child is about to place an Assassin’s Creed figure on the tablet.
You’ll also see the tablet is tethered to the Wii U with a cable. An inside source spoke with Polygon and said the tablet is plugged in to the console because that’s the only model of dev-kit currently available.
Rayman Legends will also feature online gameplay and minigames, though the trailer provides little information to go off of. Ubisoft is attempting to take down Rayman Legends videos as they hit YouTube, so watch the embedded video below before it’s gone!
