The abysmal sales performance of the PS3 here in the States and in Japan wasn’t a track record keen to be followed by the UK. MCV reports that 165,000 units were moved in the PS3’s UK launch weekend, a number that far outclasses the Wii’s 105,000 and 360’s 70,000.
It’s not completely good news for Sony, though, as a total of 220,000 machines were shipped to the UK, which leaves about 55,000 units on store shelves. But with day one numbers like that, it would come as no surprise to see them all gone by today or tomorrow. Then again, 220,000 is 23,000 more units than we got on the PS3’s launch, and here in the US, they were all sold out — one has to wonder if these numbers indicate a strong PlayStation presence, or just a weak performance by Sony’s competitors. We’ll see in the coming weeks and months.
