Sony Computer Entertainment Europe revealed details of the next firmware update for the PS3. It will be released tomorrow, May 24. Version 1.80 will add the ability for the PS3 to upscale DVDs, PS1 and PS2 games to 1080p high-definition resolution.
For upscaling DVDs, you’ll need a dedicated HDMI connection but for upscaling PS1 and PS2 games, you can use either a component or HDMI connection.
In addition, the 1.80 update will allow the PS3 to stream media from any DLNA3-compatible devices (PCs or laptops) connected to a local network and give the PS3 the ability to print photos through certain Epson printers.
The update will also include Remote Play through the Internet which will allow PSPs to connect to PS3s where a broadband connection is available.
