There is one reason why many PS3 owners refuse to download the neat demos that PlayStation Network offers — you can’t download and play games on the console simultaneously. This is sort of like not being able to chew gum and walk at the same time. It’s obvious that the two tasks should be easy to do. But until now, this was not possible on the PS3. But now, with the latest firmware update, you can blast the Chimera away with all your might while you download Tekken.
Phil Harrison demonstrated the PS3’s background downloading ability at GDC earlier this month, and it will undoubtedly increase the traffic on the PlayStation Network.
Other additions in the firmware update will include wireless PSP connectivity with the PS3, web browser tweaks and the ability to use full sized keyboards with the PS3.
Now we just need a fix that will allow us to charge Sixaxis controllers while the PS3 is off in or on standby.
