Prototype to make use of 7.1 surround sound

PrototypeSo who cares about 7.1 surround sound, anyway? To be honest, I kinda do. As a matter of fact, many 5.1 systems on the market nowadays have the ability to output in 7.1, as well. Up until now, however, there was simply no good reason to do so.

Radical Entertainment’s upcoming multiplatform action game, Prototype, will be the first to support Neural-THX Surround, which is basically a fancy name for "now I use 8 speakers." Running around New York City while harvesting the powers and identities of unassuming victims is going to sound great!

According to the press release, "Neural-THX Surround is being integrated in an estimated 70 percent of new audio-video receivers, from companies such as Sony, Pioneer, Yamaha, Onkyo, Integra, Denon, Marantz, Inkel and Sherwood."

Realistically, though, the difference between 5.1 and 7.1 is negligible for most gamers. Where do you stand on this matter, my GN faithful?
