You may add Ubisoft,s Prince of Persia franchise to the Wii,s ever growing list of game titles. A Ubisoft spokesperson revealed to IGN that, "I can confirm that a game based on the popular Prince of Persia franchise is one of many titles Ubisoft has in development for Nintendo’s Wii. At this time we cannot provide an official date for the game or any additional information about it."
The news of a PoP title for the Wii was prematurely leaked in an official announcement given to the French press several days ago. Ubisoft immediately retracted the statement concerning a Prince of Persia game for the Wii and sent out another press release saying that another “unnamed” title was in the works at Ubisoft.
The first Prince of Persia title, The Sands of Time, received excellent reviews for its gameplay and whimsical setting in the Middle East. The game was filled with puzzles, a la Tomb Raider, with high attention to graphic detail and game level design. The subsequent titles, The Warrior Within and The Two Thrones took on a darker and more violent nature. The franchise has scored remarkably high ratings for all of its titles.
There was no word from Ubisoft as to which direction it will take as far as the tone of its next installment of the series-whimsical or more fighting oriented. The change in tenor by Ubisoft of their original concept of the series was based upon user comments that indicated the fan base of the Prince of Persia games wanted more fighting and action in the series.
