At last year’s E3, Valve announced the PlayStation 3 version of Portal 2 would be receiving Steamworks support, but little was known on specifics at the time. The company is now revealing details on the feature’s integration, including cross-platform play.
This means PS3 owners will be able to play online multiplayer with both Mac and PC users. In addition they will receive cloud-based save games, cross-platform chat, and a digital Steam Play copy of the game for PC and Mac just by linking your PSN and Steam accounts.
"We made a promise to gamers at E3 that Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 would be the best console version of the product," said Valve president Gabe Newell. "Working together with Sony we have identified a set of features we believe are very compelling to gamers."
Two extra copies of the game at no extra cost? Perhaps Gabe Newell is trying to make up for his harsh words on Sony and the PS3 from a few years back. Either way it looks like PS3 owners have plenty to be excited about when Portal 2 comes out on April 18.
