PlayStation 3 update 3.40 now available, releases PlayStation Plus

The premium PlayStation Network service is now available.

The latest system update for the PlayStation 3 has hit the PlayStation Network and with it so has it’s new premium subscription service. Sony has finally released PlayStation Plus with system software update 3.40.

The PlayStation Plus feature will not take anything away from players who decide to keep their free PlayStation Network services. However, PlayStation Plus will give players willing to pay exclusive themes, gamer pictures, demos, and more.

Also arriving with the new system update is a new network based photo sharing feature for the console’s photo gallery, a new video editor and uploader feature, five star rating support, and new power save settings. The video editor and uploader will enable users to edit, save, and upload videos on their PS3 to sites like Facebook and YouTube.

In addition to the 3.40 update, a new PlayStation Network application has been released on Facebook. The new app will expand upon the previous version that allowed Trophies and PSN purchases to be shown via the site’s news feed.

"The application allows you to display your PlayStation Network profile on your Facebook account, find out which of your Facebook friends have a PSN account and send them a PlayStation Network friend request, view your PSN friends’ online status and add the PlayStation Network application tab to your Facebook user profile," posted VP of network operations Americas Eric Lempel.
